DTI Grant funding - The Low Carbon Buildings Programme
The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) re-launched its latest funding scheme for renewables, the Low Carbon Buildings Programme (LCBP), from the 29th May 2007. The following information should help applicants understand how to apply for a grant for a solar energy system.
LCBP funding is available in two streams:
Stream 1: For householders and community organisations
- Rolling first-come-first-served basis
- Energy efficiency measures before you are eligible to apply
- Levels of grants staggered depending on technology
Maximum of £2,000 per kW of installed capacity, subject to an overall maximum of £2,500 or 50% of the relevant eligible costs, whichever is the lower.

Stream 2: For the public sector, not for profit and commercial organisations.
The stream 2 fund comprises 2 categories:
Stream 2A:
- £2.9m to be allocated over 7 funding rounds (and one reserve round)
- Maximum grant of £100k or 40-50% of total costs (excl. VAT)
- One-stage application process through competitive bidding rounds
- Quarterly deadlines (Contact us for the next deadline date)
Stream 2B:
- £11m to be allocated over 3 funding rounds (and one reserve round)
- Maximum grant of £1m or 40-50% of total costs (excl. VAT)
- Two-stage application process - a building assessment followed by competitive bidding rounds
- Biannual deadlines (Final deadline June 2007)

Solarcentury are now qualifying applications for the next stream 2A and 2B funding round.
It is important that projects apply for funding as early as possible as competition is likely to increase with each round.
