Waste Recycling Centre
Hull, UKA new waste recycling plant constructed at Burma Road, Hull. The main part of the construction is a large steel framed structure approx 11m high, with profiled sheet cladding to the roof and walls. Within this structure to one end is a two storey masonry visitors' centre building. The main contractor for the project is Britcon Ltd.
Twelve photovoltaic modules are to be installed on the south facing wall of the steel framed structure and connected to the distribution board in the visitors' centre. Solarcentury are contracted by the electrical sub-contractor R.J.Coleman to design the photovoltaic system; supply the modules, framing system, electrical equipment and display; provide technical support in the form of installer training; and to commission the system.
The solar photovoltaic (PV) array installed is made up of a total of 12 Sanyo 190W PV modules supplied by Solarcentury. The array covers a total area of 14mē and is capable of producing a total peak DC power of 2.28 kilowatts under Standard Test Conditions (STC). The estimated annual energy yield for the array is 2,050 kilowatt hours (units of electricity). Groups of modules are connected to a "string" inverter ensuring that the maximum possible power can be collected from the various sub-arrays at all times and in all conditions.
